Got back to Mumbai last night after spending 3 weeks in Afghanistan.
Unlike my last visit there during Ramadan in August of last year, the weather was more comfortable as the summer was just beginning. More importantly, I didn’t have to deal with hungry drivers and translators. (During Ramadan, they have to fast during the day – no food and no water from dawn to dusk) It made it a lot easier to work.
Here is the collection of pictures I took while I was free between assignments. They aren’t the kind of photos that show serious issues and such but are just a slice of daily life in the country, mostly in Kabul.
Again, I met a lot of people during my stay. It can be only one encounter or I may see them again…God knows.
I don’t know when but I hope it won’t be too long before I return to Afghanistan. I like the beautiful mountains and friendly people in this country.

３週間のアフガニスタン滞在を終えて昨夜ムンバイに戻ってきた。
昨年８月のラマダン中と違い、初夏の気候は心地よかったが、何より腹をへらしたドライバーや通訳たちと仕事をせずにすんだのは幸いだった。ラマダン中はみは日の出から日没まで飲まず食わずの絶食なので、地元の人間たちと仕事をするのに結構な気を使わなくてはならなくなるからだ。
ここにアップしたのは、仕事の合間に撮っていたストリート・ショット。深刻な問題などを扱ったものではなく、みな日常生活の断片だ。
今回も多くの人たちとの出会いがあった。これきりの出会いかもしれないし、また彼らと時間を共有することもあるかもしれない。いずれにしても、あまり長い月日の経つ前に、またアフガニスタンに戻って来る機会があるといいなと思う。この国の美しい山々と、フレンドリーな人々が僕は好きだ。
