There are an estimated around 5,000 street children in Nepal and the number continues to grow with roughly 300 to 500 children leaving home every year. Many are taking drugs, drinking alcohol, and even suffering sexual abuse.
The corrupted government hasn't been functioning for years since the end of civil war and hasn't been able to create any jobs and welfare. Street children symbolize the country's dysfunction.
I have been following a group of street children in Kathmandu for over two years and this is my on-going project to document the progress of their life.

The changing economy has been cruel to much of Illinois state.
Since 1999, all but 15 of the state's 102 counties have seen poverty rates climb, with only one county bucking the trend in the Chicago area. Tens of thousands of families confront what often amounts to a daily struggle, if not for survival then at least for dignity. And their troubles unfold mostly out of sight, in barren apartments, soulless shelters or overflowing trailers.
The story is about seven families across Illinois with incomes below the U.S. federal poverty line. They are emblematic of groups traditionally at risk for hardship, but their stories are individual, compelling and demanding of attention.

Memories of the Vietnam War are dimming, but Vietnamese who were exposed to Agent Orange and other dioxin-laced chemicals during the fighting are still experiencing devastating health effects, and birth defects have brought the impact into a second generation. The U.S. government has yet to make full amends, either in the U.S. or overseas.

"A Long Journey Home"
Mariana de la Torre, 28, was diagnosed with cervical cancer in July 2007, eight months after crossing the border illegally from Mexico into the U.S. to escape an abusive boyfriend. In order to receive medical treatment, Mariana bought somebody’s ID and medical card in an underground market but by the time she was admitted, the cancer had become terminal. With the assistance of the Mexican embassy and an NGO helping illegal immigrants, Mariana was permitted to leave the U.S. and return to her home in Mexico to reunite with her three children as her last wish.

Malnutrition is worsening in the Somali capital of Mogadishu as fighting intensifies between Islamists and the country's weakened transitional government; the number of displaced people - already an estimated 600,000 - is also dramatically rising. Meanwhile, many Somalis are showing signs of mental health problems as the country's 17-year-long civil war takes its toll. The Islamists - dislodged by the Ethiopian-backed transitional government with covert U.S. help in 2006 - are fighting an Iraq-style insurgency with support from Eritrea.

Ingonia, a small village in Rajasthan, India, is inhabited by the Nats caste, whose women were traditionally dancers to feudal lords. When the feudal system was abolished, they lost their patrons and over time many were compelled to take up prostitution while the men lived off of their earnings. Adolescent girls are initiated into the family 'tradition' while their brothers become 'agents'. They may practice locally or in big cities such as Delhi and Mumbai as bar girls or in brothels.
