"Liberia's forgotten champions".The Liberian national team won the 2008 Amputee African Cup of Nations and members from the team were selected as the tournament's most valuable player and best goalkeeper. Many of the players are former combatants of Liberia's civil war desperately in need of a boost, and their success initially brought them fame and glory. However, their good times were short-lived: many players have since resumed lives of deprivation in extreme poverty. Many of them are homeless, and neither the government nor the amputee football league federation helps them...Amputee football players, (from the left) Chris Dweh Scott, Adwin Sambola and Oliver Blegay, play during a scrimmage in Monrovia, Liberia on May 2, 2008. .
